Speaking with 7News Monday afternoon, Israel praised the agency’s investigators for their work.“Our public corruption deputies received this information, they followed it diligently, and at the end of the trail, they had to arrest one of their own,” he said. “Not an easy thing to do, but they did their job, because they know no one is above the law.”Guzman was charged with three misdemeanor counts of petty theft. He was taken to the Broward County Jail but has since bonded out.The deputy is not the only local law enforcer accused of stealing from a Walmart while at work. In 2016, BSO Deputy Dean Korenic was arrested for allegedly shoplifting during multiple trips to Walmarts in Coral Springs. (WSVN) – The Broward Sheriff’s Office has arrested one of their own after a deputy was accused of shoplifting at a Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes– all while still in uniform.Investigators arrested Deputy Henry Guzman on Monday morning. Guzman is a 13-year veteran of the department.According to BSO, their agency’s Public Corruption Unit teamed up with Walmart after they received information that Guzman was stealing from the large retailer.Investigators said over the course of three days, Guzman entered the Walmart located along State Road 7 and stole DVDs and “Star Wars” action figures.“He did it in full uniform,” said Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.Walmart said the total for the loss was about $200.Guzman reported to BSO’s internal affairs division before he was taken into custody.
